Do You See Me?

What do you think a child really wants? What is it that any child most wants from others around, especially parents? Someone well-read would immediately respond – A child wants ‘QUALITY TIME’. And, what is that? A quick well-read response would be – spending time with a child, talking about the day, having meals together….

But, the question here is deeper than this – ‘What is special in this time? What is a child really seeking from us through this quality time?’

What children or even adults ‘truly yearn for’ goes much deeper, especially from the people who love and care about us – Do you see me? Do I have worth? Do I matter to you?

When a person feels seen, feels worthy, and feels that their existence matters, they grow up to live an empowered life.

Deprivation of attention from loved ones is worldwide noticed as the primary cause of low self-esteem in children. Their sense of self is dependent upon being seen and affirmed for their instinctive being. Look around and answer who all are waiting, silently asking, “Can you see me for who I am? Can you see me separate from your dreams and expectations for me or from me? Can you see me separate from your agenda for me?”, repeatedly asking “Do you see me?”. And, let us today answer them, for what they are really wanting or yearning for.  Instil in them the powerful sense of self that will carry them through life.

A thoughtful presence, a curious gaze, or genuine attention can go a long way in empowering someone!
